I call 215 a Superior Plus because of all the extras above and beyond a Superior.
What is the Beach Like? Snorkeling? Golf? Shopping?
Best beach in the world. It gently slopes with the softest sand you have ever felt. You can stroll down the beach for about one and a half miles. Snorkeling is great right there at the Mana Kai. Multiple championship golf courses are within five miles and so are multiple shopping centers.
Ocean and Haleakala
Mountain Views Provided
The Mana Kai Maui is a 98 unit building built in 1973 by a group of United Airlines pilots who were familiar with Maui. Site lines from the rooms are perfect. Suite 215 is on the second floor. High enough to see the ocean but not so high to lose the intimacy of the lush tropical vegetation. If such a building was proposed to be built today, we are told permits would not be allowed. The Maui Mana Kai is about 50 feet from the ocean, as you can see from the WebCam. Looking to the left from the lanai, sweeping up 180 degrees you can see Haleakala, especially beautiful at sunrise. No roads separate you from the ocean, which means no road noise.

Suite 215 is
on the second floor. High enough to see the ocean
looking to the right and then sweeping 180 degrees
you can see Haleakala too. But not so high to
lose the intimacy of the lush tropical vegetation.
If such a building was proposed to be built today,
we are told permits would not be allowed. The
Maui Mana Kai is very close to the ocean, as you
can see from the WebCam. About 50 feet so you get the cooling ocean breeze and can hear the wave action all the time. No road separates the
Mana Kai from the ocean, as compared to most rental
condos in Maui.
But don't worry,
the magical island of Maui has never been hit
by a hurricane!
Sounds of the
Ocean to Lull you to Sleep, Provided
As stated earlier, Mana Kai means "Spirit of the Sea". The story says it was an area of ancient sanctuary for Hawaiians who were in trouble. If they went here, they would be safe. So will you. Safe to sleep while the waves lap on the shore. The Maui Mana Kai also served as a debarkation point for cattle being moved from Maui to Kaho'olawe. The remains of the dock are sometimes visible during short periods when it is not covered by sand.

Maui Mana Kai Completes $5 Million Renovation
to Spectacular Hawaiian Resort
Built in 1972, Maui Mana Kai was South Maui’s First Beach Front Resort
Wailea/Kihei, Maui Hawaii – January 30, 2009 - Known world-wide for its perfect beachfront location, the Mana Kai Maui resort has completed over $5 Million in renovations and improvements.
“The lobby, resort entrance, swimming pool, hallways and more have had a complete makeover”, says David Fradin owner of unit 215 at the Mana Kai (http://www.mauimanakai.com). “The only remaining task this year is a planned touch up to the spectacular grounds around the building.”
 |
The theme of the renovations revolves around the meaning of the Hawaiian words "Mana Kai". "Mana" means "Spirit" and "Kai" means "Sea". So, inspired by the "Spirit of the Sea" the new Man Kai lobby reflects the feeling of swimming underwater and the colors of the resort blend the hues of wet sand from Keawakapu Beach and light green of the tidal pools, incorporating the natural beauty that is a few steps away. |
Around 1970 a group of United Airline pilots spotted the peninsula of land, which was once a place of refuge or pu’uhonua where people could renew their spirit. With knowledge of the land, sea and prevailing winds, the pilots situated the building and its structure in harmony with nature. The Maui Mana Kai has become a place where the children who vacationed there in the ‘70s remember fondly and return frequently with their children.
The beach lies within 100 feet of the Mana Kai and it gently slopes, has very soft sand and many locals attest to it being the best beach on Maui. All remember the spectacular sun sets and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean.
The cost to stay at the Mana Kai is very reasonable at less than one-half of the cost of the 5 Star Hotels located about a mile south, a short walk down the best beach on Maui!
In contrast to Oahu, about 90% of Maui’s vacation rentals are owned by individuals who rent them out to the traveling public either directly or through property managers. Through what is called a “lock out” the two bedroom condos can be rented separately with the one bedroom side having a full kitchen and lanai that is oceanfront. The second bedroom can be rented separately as a “hotel” room.
Pictures of the renovation can be seen by clicking here.
